Mahbubur Rahman

Mahbubur Rahman has taught architecture in Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Malaysia and Canada. A Commonwealth Scholar (1986-90) and McNamara Fellow (1998), Prof. Rahman completed his PhD at the University of Nottingham in 1990 after graduating from BUET. He is currently the Dean of Architecture and Design at Kingdom University (Bahrain) and runs an educational consultancy in Canada. He has established several architecture programs both at home and abroad and was involved with the formulation of building codes, housing policies, structure plans, building construction rules, and urban poverty reduction programs for Bangladesh. Besides providing advisory services to international and national organisations and governments, he has over 100 international publications and four books, including Society, Architects & Emerging Issues (Commonwealth, 2006) and Old but New: New but Old (UNESCO, 2009). Prof. Rahman has designed a handful of buildings and has served as the General Secretary of the Institute of Architects, Bangladesh (2005-06). His current interests include the global city, waterfront development, iconic architecture and heritage management.
